4 Essential Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Acton, MA Stone Masonry Contractor

Stone masonry can add tremendous value to your Middlesex County home; not only monetarily, as it can substantially increase the value of your property, but because it can enhance the beauty and enjoyment of your outdoor spaces, stone masonry can also provide value for your quality of life.

Whether you’re thinking about installing a new or refurbishing an existing stone patio, walkway, driveway, retaining wall, veneer facade, or perhaps even an outdoor fireplace, to ensure the best results, you’re going to want to hire a highly-skilled professional. That’s why, before you hire a stone masonry contractor, it’s important to research and use discernment to determine who will best suit your needs.

Ideally, you should speak with at least three Acton, MA masonry contractors. During the consultation process, you should ask some key questions about their services, experience, and credentials to determine which Middlesex County stone masonry professional you should hire. The following are examples of some of the questions you should consider asking.

How many years have you been in business?

No offense to newcomers to the stone masonry industry, but hiring a well-established Acton, MA masonry contractor that has been serving the Middlesex County community for several years. Why?

Well, because the longer a contractor has been in business, the more experience they’ll have in masonry construction, and they’ll bring that experience to your restoration or installation project. Plus, if a stone masonry professional has been in business for a long time, that’s a sign that they offer quality results, otherwise, they wouldn’t be in business for long.

Are you insured?

Stone masonry construction is complicated work, and even the most knowledgeable and experienced professionals can make mistakes.

That’s why it’s important to make sure that any of the Acton, MA masonry contractors you’re considering are insured. In the event that something does go wrong – the technician damaged your Middlesex County property or suffers an injury, for example – their insurance coverage will help to pay for any related expenses; if hire someone who isn’t insured, however, you could be on the hook for unexpected and exorbitant expenses. Make sure to ask the Acton, MA masonry contractors you meet with if they can provide proof of their insurance coverage, and check to ensure that their policies are valid.

What are your credentials?

If you want to ensure you receive the highest quality, longest lasting results, you want to make sure that you hire a qualified professional. Unfortunately, there are stone masonry contractors that claim they’re professionals, but in reality, they have limited background knowledge and minimal experience. That’s why you’ll want to inquire about each Acton, MA masonry contractor’s credentials.

They should carry a valid license, which indicates that they are professionally trained and are current with the most recent Massachusetts regulations. While it may not be necessary, hiring a stone masonry professional that belongs to an accredited professional organization – the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA) or the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA), for example – is highly recommended.

Can I see a portfolio of your work?

To see the quality of craftsmanship each Acton, MA masonry contractor can deliver, ask to see a portfolio that highlights some of the projects they completed. Check to see if their portfolio includes examples of projects that are similar to the work you want to have done; if you want to have a new stone patio installed, for example, see if their portfolio features stone patios they’ve installed.

It is bordered by Westford and Littleton to the north, Concord and Carlisle to the east, Stow, Maynard, and Sudbury to the south and Boxborough to the west. Acton became an incorporated town in 1735. The town employs the Open Town Meeting form of government with a town manager and an elected, five-member board of selectmen. Acton’s history reflects the history of Massachusetts, New England, and the United States. It was first settled by Native Americans who used the Assabet, Sudbury and Concord rivers for transportation and the fields for farming seasonal crops. There is evidence of Native American settlements in Acton which go back 7,000 years. When the colonists arrived in this area, the Native American population dropped dramatically due to European diseases for which they had no immunity.

Isaac Davis Monument and the Acton Town Hall

Concord was the first inland colonial town established in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The original boundaries of Concord included all of Acton and residents used the Acton land as grazing fields for their animals. In 1639, the first homestead was built within the modern day boundaries of the town.

Acton was established as an independent town on July 3, 1735. Acton has held annual town meetings since 1735, the records of which are held at Acton’s Memorial Library.
